Sunday Night at Bogart’s in Apple Valley

Michelle smiled and reached for the microphone.

She was fearless up there.

She had lost count of how many

karaoke contests she had won.

She sang like Adele,

like Idina Menzel,

like Pat Benatar or

Katy Perry.

Her talent was undeniable.

Her sweet voice was a delicate monster.

She smiled and started to sing.

Everyone stopped talking.

They all turned to listen,

rapt, spellbound.

I felt kind of special,

as I was the only one in the room

who knew that

she was a

horrible

person.
